St Helena Then & Now

Director's Introduction (complete introduction is in the book)
At the beginning of 2006, whilst travelling back to St Helena, I carried in my bags the book entitled "Sainte-Helene, Ile De Memoire".  This book was the result of four years of work for which I had used the notes of my research and the stock of phtographs whch I had accumulated in the two decades I have lived on the island.  On board the ship, the RMS St-Helena, which carried me toward what has become my "home", I was pleased to re-examine a friend, Pamela Lawrence, who is in charge of the department of education on the island.  I showed her the work and she said to me without beating about the bush: - "It would be good to produce an English version of this book because there is no work of this quality in the English language on the market..."
